Something New For The New Year
It's a new year and that just seems to be the bell ringing in all things new. I really feel the spirit of the new year this year -- and the wanting to try new things. So I decided to try my hand at writing longer pieces. As I said to my friend Kristen, there's a reason I write poetry -- it's quick, it's concentrated, and it's intense -- and then you're done. Or maybe it has something to do with a lazy-bone streak in me that I'd like to deny, but oh, the couch is so inviting, what a lovely day for a walk in the park, is that really on sale? So I'm taking a nice deep breath, applying seat of pants to seat of chair, and getting out my funky spiral notebook (because truth be told, I like writing in longhand.) And I am dubbing 2008 the Year of Fun. Did you think I was going to say, the Year of the Novel? Nope, too much pressure. This is the year of fun. If it isn't fun, I am not going to do it. Just to get the ball rolling I thought I'd have a little fun with a haiku. (I haven't written a haiku since grade school, but I always found them fun.) Here goes:
A new year begins
a good time to start new things
so I go. Go. GO!
What new things will you begin this year? What will be the most fun?
